Hiring in at GM/Allison Division on June 25, 1979 as a machine operator, I have since progressed through several machining classifications. Currently, I work in Plt. 6 as an FMS operator. My past experience as an elected representative has been an honor and includes Alt. (‘89 – ‘96), Dist. (‘96 – ‘10), and Shop Committeeperson At-Large (‘01-’07). I have been at the bargaining table involving the 1999, 2003, and 2008 UAW 933/Allison contracts. Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of being an Alt. Delegate to the 31st UAW National Constitutional Convention (1995). I’m looking forward to working with the Recovery Team and all members of Local 933 (active and retired). With your vote and support, along with the energy of our Slate, we will make a difference.

Hiring in at Allison 10/02/2006, I have cut chips and assembled over the past 10 years. I’m currently working day shift in the Plant 6 rotating clutch dept. I’ve been a member of our plant safety team for nearly one year. Prior to Allison, I was a Committeeman for 6 years at Leer Corporation in Edinburgh, IN. I am tremendously confident the Recovery Team will perform our duties in a manner that YOU, the active and retired members of Local 933, can be proud of. I take great pride in being part of producing a quality transmission. By electing our three (3) Recovery Team Trustee candidates, you and I will both know exactly where our money is being spent. We will be a strong voice on your Executive Board and will always keep you informed at Regular Membership Meetings.

I am 59 years of age and have been married for 33 years. Working at Allison since June 1977, I have spent most of my time at Plt 3 in the sheet metal shop. I believe the Union needs to head in a different direction. We definitely need to improve communication with the Membership. As an at-Large Board member, I will always strive to keep YOU informed. It’s time for us to unite as a Brother and Sisterhood and stand together, as one. A vote for the entire Recovery Team will get our Local back to where it’s expected…a prideful organization. Thank you for your consideration.

I have worked at Allison for 5 years as an Assembler in Plants 4 & 6. I have a 16 year old Son who is growing into manhood. My hope is he will, one day, have the opportunity for gainful and secure employment that will allow him to raise a family. I want our Local Union to help provide these opportunities. As a Union, I feel we have sacrificed so much over the years. We need to reunite and refocus for the Members of today, and of the future. Union leadership needs to step-up its performance, and get back to the basics of unity and fighting for our rights. With your vote and support of the entire Recovery Team, we will deliver upon your expectations.

I have been an Assembly tech for nearly 5 years. I currently serve as a member of the Local 933 Women’s Committee to ensure equal rights and representation for all. I want to take a more active and leadership role in our Union. At a time when our future is filled with uncertainty, our vision is blurred, and our purpose has become reactionary. I want to be a voice of clarity. Through leadership with new ideas and a burning desire to serve the membership with enthusiasm, we can do great things. This is why I’m proud to be a member of the Recovery Team and I’m asking for YOUR support of our entire Team. We are the future.

I began working at Allison as a Tier 2 employee on 09/06/2011. Currently working as an FMS operator in Plt. 4 shafts, I’ve also worked in Plt’s 17, 12, and 6. Prior to Allison, I worked at Quaker Oats where I was selected as a Union Steward, progressed to Chief Steward, and was elected twice as Unit Vice President. I helped negotiate 2 contracts prior to leaving. I love helping people, particularly newer members. Speaking my mind and standing up for what is right for all Members is easy for me. Being your strong voice on our Executive Board is my pledge. Thank you for your vote and support.

Summary from Donald Newton:
I’ve spent most of my entire work life as a member of UAW Local 933 working in Plant #5 until becoming a member of the International UAW staff in the early 1990’s. I was elected Alt. Committeeperson with Bob Boone in the early 1970’s. As Bob moved upward, I succeeded him in his past positions. I’ve been elected Alt., Dist., and Shop Chairman over both Maywood and Speedway. After opposing the split of our Local, I served as Maywood Chairman. In total, I was elected Chairman five (5) times in Local 933. I was employed by the International Staff in 1993 serving as an Intn’l Rep. over the SOURCING issues in our union. Most of my National Union experience is in the arena of SOURCING. I am currently retired.
Long Message from Donald Newton:
My name is Donald Newton and I am supporting Jackie McCarty Jr. and the entire Recovery Team. I have held various UAW Local 933 positions including Bargaining Committee Chairperson, (elected 5 times). I was a UAW International Representative for the Job Security Department building business cases for Sourcing decisions.
I understand that most of the members of Local 933 have little or no interaction with the union that collects monies for representation on their behalf. Elections are more of a curiosity and you develop no real passion for the UAW. Like most of you, I hired into the Allison family (Detroit Diesel Allison, 1966) in order to provide a decent living for my family. For four years, I knew nothing of the United Auto Workers Union except it took $5 from my paycheck every month.
One day I found myself working for a man who could not be satisfied with a fair day’s work. His mission was to harass and brow-beat everyone in the department. This became my introduction to the UAW in the form of my District Committeeperson, Robert Boone (future Bargaining Chairperson and International Rep). Bob made it his mission to harass this foreman as well as other like-minded management personnel.
A couple of years later, Sam Murray, recruited me to run for his District 26 Committeeman position as he was now a candidate for President of Local 933. I still had no passion to involve myself in the union as a representative. I was satisfied that I was being well represented by Local 933 and fairly treated by my Allison management. This soon changed as the new District Committeeperson had little passion for representing the people of District 26 but was very happy to reap the overtime benefits that came with his new stature.
Very soon after the general election, the District 26 Alternate Committeeperson became a skilled trades apprentice and resigned his position. Several people in the area approached me and asked me to run for the opening. The rest, as they say, is history. I developed a real passion for the UAW and the union movement as a whole that would last for 33 years. After retiring in 2005, I ended up moving to Tennessee to be near my daughter. When she accepted a job in Louisville, Kentucky, my wife expressed the desire to move back to Indianapolis.
It was while searching for a home in Indy, that by chance I decided to attend my first retiree meeting at the Local 933 Union Hall. I was shocked to find that the 10,000 member local union that I was elected to represent as Chairperson in 1983 has been reduced to less than 2,400 (between Allison Transmission and Rolls Royce Allison). I fully understand how volume reductions and attrition can reduce the work force. What I wasn’t prepared to hear was that the Local 933 President and union leadership had forced horrific concession agreements upon this membership including outsourcing hundreds of production and skilled trade jobs.
When Bob Boone put together the Recovery Slate and asked for my help in restoring leadership to this great local union, I could not refuse.
Sincerely yours,
Donald Newton
Jack McCarty, Jr.
As a candidate for President, UAW Local 933, it is my honor and privilege to present our Recovery Team candidates in the May 10th General Election of Officers. I am deeply proud to be part of the youth, enthusiasm, and diversity of our Team. We represent the future of Local 933. We are a no-nonsense group dedicated to fighting for the membership. Through communication, energetic job performance, and effective results, our common goal is to improve the perception of what a UNION should be. With your support, we will lead a concerted effort to strengthen all of us and our future.
You will notice a stark contrast between our Team and the group that represents the past. The current Union leadership is NOT seeing a problem. They have become all in favor of the status quo. We do not offer hundreds of years of lethargic habits. We are not defined as ‘retirement eligible’ candidates who are going through the motions with nothing to lose.
The Recovery Team candidates are highly motivated and dedicated to restoring Union pride, respect, and accountability. It will be our top priority. Again, we are the future. Thank you for your serious consideration.

Hi. I’m Mike Shotts. I am classified as a Millwright/Welder and also a Journeyman Sheetmetal and/or Tinsmith at the main Speedway Plant as well as Plant 17 &15. I hired in 8-28-1978. Currently, I am Co-chairman of the Skilled Trades Committee. We are watching our workforce systematically being eroded when proper maintenance of our machinery is not allowed. Then, when the machinery fails, it’s removed, along with the work it once performed due to the present representation’s laziness to use the Appendix L process. We can recover our losses and make huge gains in the future. We will stop giving in to corporate greed. Thanks for your support!

Thanks for your consideration voting for me for District 5 Committeeman, Speedway (afternoons). I hired in at Allison November 2nd, 2009. I don’t know about you but I have a long career ahead of me at Allison. The present representation is pretty well numb to the realities on the shop floor facing all of us Workers and especially the Tier Two 2nd Class Citizenry. Shouldn’t this be illegal? Real work by my present Committeeman is but a foggy memory if the memory is there at all. We can do better, and our survival counts on it! Your vote and support would be greatly appreciated. (scroll down for my handbill which endorses my team person, Kim Howse, running for Dist. 5 Alternate Committeeperson, Speedway). Brothers and Sisters,
My name is Darin Davenport and I am running for Committeeman, District 1, Rolls-Royce. I work in Plant 5 big engine assembly. I have been employed by Rolls-Royce for 21 years. I would like to give a brief description of the responsibilities that I feel are important in the position I am seeking.
- Ensuring that management adheres to the Contract we agreed upon.
- Responding to all employee requests in a timely manner.
- Answering all questions within 24 hours. If I am unable to do that I will let you know and we will work together to find the answer.
- Settling grievances in a timely manner and keeping you abreast of where we are in the process at all times.
- Providing you with a written grievance settlement.
- I will always come to you about your call, not to management.
Thank you for considering me to serve as your Committeeman. “The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or they have concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.” General Colin Powell

Union Brother and Sisters,
My name is Chad McGuyre and I am running for District #5 Committeeman (Midnights). I work at Rolls-Royce plant 5 as an FMS operator, hiring in on 6/30/1997. I would appreciate your consideration, for the opportunity to serve you. I am running for Committeeman because I want to offer all of you a new approach to this position, a more engaged approach. I would like to say most importantly that I only want what is best for this Union. I want us all to strengthen together, to stand together, and fight together as one. It is all of our jobs to voice our opinions and be heard. I would very much like to listen to your concerns and pass them along for you. By electing me I will be your voice.
If you decide to elect me this is what I can promise you, if you know me then you know that this is not some political line just to get elected. I keep my promises. I believe in full transparency. By electing me you are putting your trust in me to represent you and to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. I will always be honest with you and work hard for you. If I don’t have the answer then I will get the answer and get back with you asap (pardon the phrase, but asap means “asap” and not amnesia we have seen over and over again). You will see me. I will constantly be out on the floor walking the aisles and through the departments. I think this is a very important function of any representative for two reasons:
- The first reason being that it keeps me visible to you, so if you just want to stop me and ask a question then you won’t have to go very far because you know I’ll be by.
- Secondly, it helps stop management from violating the contract.
If I’m in the office, the door will always be open. Most importantly I will always treat you with respect. Any concerns you have are important. If it’s important to you then it’s important to me.
Remember, this election is all of our voices. Your vote will say loud and clear what we want for the future of our Union. It is time that we think freely for ourselves and do not give into intimidation and do not simply vote for someone because they are our friend. Make an informed decision and vote for who you think will do the best job for you and our Union.
If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to ask me you can contact me via the following avenues:
I look forward to meeting all of you and serving you.
Don’t forget to come out and vote on May 10th. YOUR VOTE, YOUR VOICE.
Let’s make our Union strong again. Your vote would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time,
Chad McGuyre

Sisters and brothers of UAW Local 933 midnight shift (Dist. 5, Zone 4 Maywood),
For those of you who don’t know me, I am the guy who shouts greetings, and jokes with you as you are walking in or out of the gate or walking down the aisles. I might say, “Aren’t you going to stay late and help them out?” or “Are we living the dream?”. I say these things to lighten the mood. For myself, but also to hopefully lighten it up for the other person as well. I have been working here since August 11th, 1997, and I have held several classifications over the years, with the longest held classification being a job setter. My current position is MSE Turning in Department 0505. I am running for this position because this shift and the people on it are important to me and I feel we need to be pro-active instead of reactive in our dealings with management.
We on the midnight shift are the smallest group, having only 73 people, according to the computer which may or may not be accurate. With this small of a group I feel that we have the ability to form a united front and stand strong together. Unity is the state of being one, so when we stand unified as one for issues that are important to us we have the best possible chance of winning. I am reminded of this verse from the book of Ecclesiastes 4:9 “two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Though one can be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
So when I am waving to you as you pass, teasing and cutting up, I am letting you know that I see you. I see you as a coworker, a union brother or sister, and as a friend. I see your struggles and your frustrations because I have them too. I am not going to make a lot of promises that I do not know for a fact that I can keep, but I can promise that: I Will see you. I Will listen to you; your concerns Are valid, and I will Always keep in mind that I work for You!
Thank you for your consideration.
Your friend and brother,
Stevie Wray
